This small village, situated in the southwest of France, has everything you could look for in a book town, with sunshine, flowers and good wine as a bonus!
It all started in 1991, when book sellers decided to set roots there. A museum of arts and books soon followed and the old paper mill was brought back to life. As a result, inns and restaurant started to open and nowadays this town sees about 52.000 booklovers every year.
You will find old and new books but Montolieu is most renowned for the ancients and precious books hidden away in packed, tiny bookshops. If you are the lucky owner of a rare edition in need of some help, you might want to go see some of the best book doctors there.
If you don’t speak French, don’t worry about it, most bookshops have foreign languages sections. And in any case, you won’t need to read or talk French to enjoy the excellent food you will also find there!
