We are now happy to announce an unmissable date for your diaries: the Clutching At Straws launch event! This launch of Charles P. Sharkey’s 4th novel, a gripping tartan-noir thriller set in the ganglands of Glasgow, also carries special significance as it marks the long-awaited return of Ringwood’s in-person launch parties. The event will be held at 7pm on Thursday, 2nd of September at Sweeney’s Pub, 962 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, G41 2ET. Attendance is free with no need for a ticket, so mark it in your diaries and we’ll see you there!

Clutching At Straws is a gritty and realistic dive into Glasgow’s criminal underworld informed by Charlie’s 25 years as a criminal lawyer. The novel follows Inspector Frank Dorsey and his partner DC George Mitchell as they investigate a dead body they believe to be linked to the Moffats, one of the most notorious crime families in Glasgow. However, as they begin to delve further into the case, it becomes apparent that they have a complex web of connected mysteries and murders to make sense of, involving old and new figures of Glasgow’s criminal underworld. Furthermore, it appears some of the victims had been sent a cryptic anonymous text message days before their death that warns of divine punishment for the criminals of the city.

Our pre-order page for Clutching At Straws is still up on our website here, the only place to order your copy of the book prior to the event.

The formal side of the event will feature an introduction to the author, Charles P. Sharkey, and to the book itself, followed by some readings and discussion of the book, and a Q&A session with the author. This will then be followed by food and live music. Once again, this is a free event and tickets are not required, so come on down to Sweeney’s Pub and join us for any or all of the night’s proceedings!

Given that this is Ringwood’s first in-person event in more than 18 months, we are taking the upmost care around Covid-19 precautions and will be co-operating with Sweeney’s Pub to follow all of the government’s latest standards and guidelines to assure the safety of everyone attending. Nevertheless, we understand that some people may be unable to attend the event, so we will also be doing a live broadcast of the formal side of the event on Ringwood’s official Facebook page from 7:30pm.
