Dark Loch the impressive debut novel by Charles P Sharkey about the impact of the First World War on a small Scottish crofting community received a truly memorable Launch at a crowded Sweeney’s Bar on Thursday 30th October. Well over a hundred excited people were present to give the wonderful novel an unforgettable Launch, which ended up as an all night party with books, music, food and drink galore.

The author Charlie Sharkey spoke about the origins and background to the book. This was followed by two readings. Jim Blake eloquently did justice to the moving Prologue which sets the atmosphere for the rest of the book. Then well known Glaswegian writer and Literary critic Jack McLean combined a couple of readings with shrewd observations about the continuing relevance of the central core of the book.

Then the party really began with music provided by the Cahoots and other groups. Author Charles P Sharkey proved his versatility by performing several of his own songs, more of which were then covered by other artists.
All in all a great evening to launch what is certain to be a well-received book of contemporary relevance as well as a fitting memorial on the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the War.

Dark Loch can be bought from this website, now under Available Titles, as well as from Amazon.co.uk and all other major internet booksellers. It is also available now from the main Scottish bookshops like Waterstones and Blackwells.
The e-book version was launched simultaneously and is can be purchased for Kindle and Kobo
Dark Loch will be a great Christmas present for anyone aware of the 100th anniversary of what proved to be a devastating war for many Scottish communities.
