The Lanarkshire Police Chronicles is a fascinating collection of true stories involving crimes committed in and around Lanarkshire across the past 150 years of Lanarkshire Police service to the community; from the thrilling to the mundane, from the minor to the murderous, but always absorbing.

George Barnsley achieved the rank of Superintendent and worked with the Association of Chief Police Officers for Scotland at the Scottish Police College before his retirement in 2010. He has worked in the local Criminal Investigation Department and simultaneously served with the Serious Crime Squad. Since stopping active service, he has established a training and consultancy company to deliver investigation training to UK-based organizations that deal with criminality, delivered that training throughout the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and provided expert advice to television productions including In Plain Sight, Deadwater Fell, and Shetland.

Thanks to his tireless work with the Lanarkshire Police Historical Society, he has extensively researched police reports from the last 150years. He has collated this material into a book, The Lanarkshire Police Chronicles, that is full of human interest stories and is a wonderfully absorbing read, which Ringwood is proud to be able to publish.

The book is split into nine unique sections covering topics as diverse as  Wartime, Community, Food and Drink, Breach of the Peace, Theft, Assault, Murder, In Memoriam, and at the heart of the book, full and moving accounts of the two Lanarkshire Policemen, Ross Hunt & George Taylor, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their community.

As well as reporting the facts as seen at the time, the author has drawn on his own extensive experience to provide ongoing commentary putting these incidents in some context of the development of the police service over many years, ensuring contemporary resonance as well as great historical interest. George’s stories provide a fascinating insight into the massive range of crimes committed in Lanarkshire and trace the development of policing since the late 1800s to modern-day issues.

The book will be launched on 17th November in the Drumpellier Golf Club from 7 pm. The book is now available for pre-publication orders. To purchase it, click the Add To Basket button below and guarantee yourself a signed First Edition copy delivered to your home before the launch.
