Ringwood Publishing’s policy on Interns is geared to helping young people interested in a career in publishing break the vicious circle where you cannot get an interview for a permanent job unless you have considerable publishing experience – but paradoxically you cannot get that level of experience without a job.

Ringwood’s deal with Interns is always that we will provide them with real and meaningful experience across all of the stages involved in the production of a book, and also the tasks involved in the promoting and marketing of published titles.

With the help of good quality support and supervision from dedicated permanent Ringwood staff, Interns have made an enormous positive contribution to Ringwood’s ability to produce as many high-quality books as we have published over the past 10 years.

In return for this positive contribution, as well as the extensive experiences provided, Ringwood also offer a positive reference from us as a well-respected publisher confirming that the Intern is a strong and realistic candidate for a full-time post and career in publishing. We also reimburse all expenses incurred but like almost all small Scottish and indeed UK publishers we cannot afford to pay Interns a wage, though we do wish that this wasn’t the case.
