February here at Ringwood has been a hopeful month full of new things – new books, new ideas, and new opportunities!

The mediaeval city of Rouen, where L.A. Kristiansen’s historical fiction Raise Dragon is set, has also hosted the success of Ringwood’s first literary event in France. In partnership with ABC bookshop, Ringwood held an interview with Kristiansen on Raise Dragon at Hôtel Littéraire Gustave Flaubert on 7th February. Good news for historical fiction fans – Kristiansen’s second book Revenge of the Tyrants will be released shortly this coming Spring!

On the 18th, Ringwood launched Tony Garner’s debut novel, The Hotel Hokusai, in front of an overflowing book-thirsty audience, kicking off Ringwood’s new publications of 2024 with one of our most successful events. Wondering what adventure a Glaswegian artist and a Korean eel salesboy could embark on together in Yokohama, 1893? Grab your copy of The Hotel Hokusai here now while it’s selling fast!

For those interested in the local history of Glasgow, this new book is for you – Ringwood is launching Glasgow’s Burning by Vince McGlennan, who traces every fire the city has experienced since the 19th century. Come along to the free launch event at McNeills in the Southside on March 10th!

In this month’s newsletter, we had the pleasure to read two amazing new essays from Matilda and Margaret. Speaking on Poor Things, Matilda reflects on the absence of Scotland in this film which is adapted from a profoundly Glaswegian novel and to what extent the film contributes to the name of Scottish Literature. In another essay, Margaret and Matilda examine the importance of ‘place’ in storytelling and the psychological implications the ‘place’ can have on readers, with examples of several Ringwood’s own publications.

As usual, we had a lovely chat with one of our interns – and this time with Matilda, who shared with us their favourite books, their experience with Ringwood, and more!

Last but not least, Ringwood is looking for volunteers and we are needing a wide range of roles! If you’re interested, send an email to donny.mcintyre.ringwood@gmail.com or drop us a message via our Facebook Page. We look forward to hearing from you!
